HCM Interviews Underground Hip-Hop Artist “Aantdoe”

Straight out of West Philly…Better known as “Da Bottom”, Hood Critic Magazine sits down to interview the underground hip-hop artist known as Aantdoe.  Born and raised in Philadelphia, Aantdoe gives us a little insight on how he got to this point of his career as an artist and his views on the industry. Check out his interview to see what he has to say…

HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Aantdoe. I was a high-school DJ and my DJ name was DJ Ant Money… So once I started Rapping I just switched from Ant Money to Aantdoe… means the same thing, One was a DJ the other an Emcee…

HCM. When did you start making music and taking it serious?
Aantdoe. I always had a love for music for as long as I can remember, I was a DJ for a female rapper that I helped write a lot of her material… So I actually wrote my first song as an Emcee as a freshman in high-school…

HCM. How do you feel about the present state of the music industry?
Aantdoe. It’s definitely a social media driven industry now… So I feel like it’s become H.O.T, which I like to call it (Hype Over Talent)… Since you can pretty much become an instant success through social media, you don’t have to necessarily be talented to make it… So that brings the standard of what’s expected from the actual artist notches below what it used to be…

HCM. Who influenced you to become an artist? And why?
Aantdoe. I’m from the era where you actually had to be able to rap to be a rapper/emcee… So my influences are: Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, KRS One, Cool G Rap, Steady B, Chuck D, I could go on and on but those are just a few…

These guys actually rapped… You can tell they took time and actually thought about what they wanted to say before they said it…

HCM. Today’s music seems to be about collaborations with the “hottest” artist out. Who would you want to work with on a project? And why?
Aantdoe. I’d like to tell my own story… And although there are quite a few artist I would love to work with I don’t want to be known as the “ Oh the dude that has that song with such and such”… I feel like my music is relatable on so many levels that I’d be ok without that major feature, but again there are quite a few male and female emcees that I’d love to work with…

HCM. Do you feel that you are an artist or entertainer? Explain.
Aantdoe. Right now I feel as though I’m more of an artist… Just because I’m so focused on the music and the message I want to put out there…

HCM. Would you prefer to be independent or signed to a major?
Aantdoe. I’d rather be independent… This way I can drive my career the way I want to… Now with that being said if a major comes along and the situation they present is correct then I’d really consider it…

HCM. What are you currently working on and how can the people find you?
Aantdoe. I’m on all media platforms @aantdoemusic….. Email address is aantdoemusic@gmail.com
