HCM Interviews Rapper Jayce Tha Kat

HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Jayce Tha Kat. Me and a homie were in the studio and we had the radio on, we were just chilling drinking and that old school song came on “why must I chase the cat it’s nothing but the dog in me” and the homie was like oh snap chase the cat, seeing that my first name is Jayce it just became Jayce Tha Kat and I rocked it since.

HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Jayce Tha Kat. My pops have been in a band my whole life so music is just something that’s in my blood. I wrote my first rap song at age 11. The fam who goes by the name D.O.P.E had a box of instrumentals so I would play them in my CD player and record through a built-in mic on my tape player boom box.

HCM. On your upcoming release… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Jayce Tha Kat. The EP I’m currently working on is a dope concept that I came up with. It’s different and unique and nobody is doing anything like it. I don’t want to speak too much on it though cause folks to talk it’s going to be real dope.

HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Jayce Tha Kat. Some challenges are just putting out music that the fans want to hear. I struggled growing up and still struggle that’s why I work hard and also why my work ethic is top-notch.

HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Jayce Tha Kat. Yea my wife and kids for always keeping me on my toes, and for pushing me to do what I love. Musically I got to shout out the music fam the homie Dope, Nick “Money” Meyer, and all the family where I’m from you all know we see you.
