This week HCM got up with up-and-coming rap duo SnapDibz for an interview. The one-two punch combination of the two is quite unique in this day and age of rap music, given that acts such as DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, or Gang Starr (DJ Premier and Guru) aren’t as common. Well, these two have a different view in mind, and they plan to change that narrative putting their own spin on the hip-hop culture. Take a look at their interview to learn more about their musical journey and what’s new…
HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
SnapDibz. Snap is an American-born Indian rapper from Atlanta. He met DJ Dibz while increasing his knowledge living in Louisana. The duo quickly became SnapDibz.
HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
SnapDibz. Music has always been a passion and residing in my brain and heart: I picked up my brother’s guitar and taught myself this in high school. I played and bands and then took up writing and began hip-hop music.
HCM. To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
SnapDibz. I feel the SnapDibz genre of pop/hip-hop is a little different vibe than most because of the various influences m. I grew up listening to and playing Metallica. I listened to a lot of rock and pop and then when in high school and college I was huge into Outkast! I’d say they were one of my first rap bands. Eminem, Joyner Lucas, We Sherman, Beiber, and many others now I feel have an influence.
HCM. On your current/upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
SnapDibz. My next release is called “Rivals” feat Rey Khan and releases 11/5. This is the third release from a collaboration project. “Rivals” is about strength. The strength to “be above my haters and I’m facing all my rivals,” or competition directly in the eyes. To not be afraid, ignore the naysayers, go at it and get it.
HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
SnapDibz. Challenges are finding time to complete all the projects as fast as my brain can create them but also having to rely on others meaning outsourcing mix/master, waiting on vocal editing, etc, and trying to coordinate everything. It’s very time-consuming. I not only write my lyrics but coordinate any collaboration, find and outsource music video creation, artwork, etc and then get it all distributed and then promoting! All in one shop these days.
HCM. What impression would you like listeners to be left with after hearing your music?
SnapDibz. I’d like listeners to feel the music and lyrics of our songs. I want it to put people in a good mood but also find topics people can relate to.
HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
SnapDibz. I plan to continue to create music and put our music videos. We have completed and will be releasing the next 4 projects with Rey over the next months as everything comes together. I want to create an online presence and “maybe” one day do more shows but my other career in medicine is also very time-consuming.
HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout-outs?
SnapDibz. Thanks to Cupid Media for always creating great music videos for us. Thanks to Rey for all the great collab work and melodies. And thanks to anyone out there who has ever streamed a song, saved a song, listened to and felt a song, watched a video, or anything else SnapDibz related. Thank you to all fans for continuing to inspire and motivate.
