How Deepen Is Leading A New Generation Of Musicians

When technology became a prevalent ingredient of most songs released in the past decades, it’s been difficult for actual musicians to earn the spotlight. There has been a major shift in people’s taste towards music that has made songwriting a less noticed talent. However, in recent years, more artists have emerged trying to revive the pop-rock genre, which puts more emphasis on lyrics, recording, and artistry.

The decade of the 2000s saw the likes of Jason Mraz, James Morrisson, John Legend, and Taylor Swift slowly bringing the art of songwriting into the limelight. These people inspired young musicians to pursue being lyricists. Gradually, people’s love for honest music came back, paving the way for younger musicians.

One artist whose desire is to see his name in the top charts is American-Indian / South Asian American singer and songwriter Deepen. At a young age, Deepen has earned the attention of many music producers in India and the United States after uploading a series of viral videos. His most popular video on YouTube, his own take on Aliyah’s “Are you that Somebody,”has garnered more than two million views.

Deepen is from New Jersey. His parents moved to the U.S. before he was born. They worked hard to secure a better future for him. Due to his outgoing personality, he made many friends right away. Deepen describes his early teenage years as fun but well-guided as his parents made sure that he did well at school.

When he was 14 years old, Deepen learned to sing and beatbox and started covering some songs by his favorite rock bands. His favorites included Journey, Bruce Springsteen, and Paramore, but he listened to songs from other genres, too including hip hop and R&B artists like Boyz to Men, Snoop Dogg, Aliyah, and others. Two years later, Deepen created an account on YouTube where he uploaded some of his songs. He admits that he wasn’t an exceptional singer / beatboxer in the beginning, but he practiced to get better and better each day.

Most of Deepen’s early videos didn’t receive much attention from the online community, and he didn’t let that bother him. He did it for fun, and he considered his YouTube account as merely a library of his memories during his early years as a guitarist. When he was younger, Deepen played his version of Jason Mraz’s classic “I’m Yours” on TikTok, which became a hit with over 300,000 downloads.

A few weeks later, Deepen tried covering songs from female vocalists like Adele, Evanescence, and Billie Eilish. All covers earned over a hundred thousand views, but his take on Adele’s “When We Were Young” stood out. Deepen was inspired by arendition of this song on a blind audition on The Voice. For this reason, he spent countless hours practicing the chords and reaching the high notes of the song.

Deepen’s viral video gave him the chance to get the attention of people from the mainstream music industry. He has received many offers to launch his career as a mainstream artist. Deepen says that he’s finally signed a recording deal for his debut album.
