Over the weekend HCM caught up with up & coming rap artist RNF Zay for a brief interview. The rapper gave us a small look into his background, as well as details about his latest project. Check out what he had to say to learn more about the rap artist known as RNF Zay…
RNF Zay Interview
HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
RNF Zay. My name came about after long thoughts on what my goals are coming into the industry. In my name RNF stands for “Rich N Famous” & Zay is my nickname I go by.
HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
RNF Zay. I first realized my love for music around 11 years old. I was making songs on my computer using Sony Acid… I knew I wanted a career in music cause I felt like all the battles I faced in life & the story I have needed to be told & my father pushed me to take my craft seriously.
HCM. To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
RNF Zay. I accredit my style a little from the early 2000s from artists like DMX, to new artists like Lil Durk & Polo G.
HCM. On your current “Mama Cry” EP… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
RNF Zay. On my latest EP “Mama Cry” the concept came to after being accustomed to a lot of tragedy… After losing my father in early May. The EP came together in a form of pain music & vibes for the ladies… I named the tape “Mama Cry” because in my city and a lot of others, it’s normal for kids to pass away before their parents & I done seen a lot of mothers cry & I wanted to rebuild of that in a positive way.
HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
RNF Zay. Some of my greatest challenges as an artist is being indecisive about my next releases. My music is unique & has a lot of different vibes I want my fans to hear. My greatest attribute when it comes to my work ethic is giving my fans quality music constantly. In the last 3 months, I’ve released 3 singles, 3 videos, first EP & just released my latest EP “Moma Cry”.
HCM. What impression would you like listeners to be left with after hearing your music?
RNF Zay. After listening to my music, I would like my listeners to be left with the message of enthusiasm & them wanting to listen again.
HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
RNF Zay. Stay tuned for a lot more visuals & keep an eye out for my first mixtape “Born To Shine”, releasing in late August.
HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
RNF Zay. I would like to shoutout everyone who at any moment supported my craft & believed in my vision. I would like to shoutout Rico Bandz for constantly making sure I was locked in on a project & putting out my best work at all times… 2020 our year if you didn’t know, now you know… RIP Dad!
