Abe Yellen Leans into Nostalgia with New Single ‘South of Italy’

Writer, producer, and musician, Abe Yellen releases a nostalgic, timeless single, “South of Italy,” in anticipation of his upcoming album. Leaning into authenticity, Yellen demonstrates the power of an open heart and timeless talent in his latest single.

From a young age, Abe Yellen has devoted his time and love to the pursuit of great music. Playing wherever he could take up space, Abe made his way from church stages to road tours, carving his path along the way.

Before he began writing for himself, Abe Yellen spent the better part of his career as a cowriter and producer, helping other artists achieve their vision. “A lot of great friendships were grown out of those creative relationships,” Abe shares. “I would spend 3-6 months to a year with the artist and get to know them personally. A lot of artists need an encourager to believe in them and walk alongside them. Making music is fun, but it’s not the entire picture.”

This time, the moment has come for Abe Yellen to believe in his own dreams.

Since relocating to Los Angeles several months ago, Abe Yellen has found peace—and inspiration—in his surroundings. “It’s inspiring being in the land where great records have been made,” shares the singer. “So many artists I admire have spent time in the place where my music is coming out.”

After releasing a string of singles over the past few years, Abe Yellen looks forward to releasing a full album this spring, featuring the single “South of Italy.” “I’m off to the races on a new frontier,” shares the artist. “I like feeling the momentum of getting things out there. I’m looking forward to playing live again.”

Used to playing with other artists, Abe refers to creating solo music as an often-lonely endeavor yet a necessary challenge. “It took a while to finally get to this place,” tells Abe. “I was going through a hard season of life. Sometimes music serves that purpose—not to put it out there and market but as an outlet for healing. These songs were born out of struggle and difficult times.”

In fact, Abe Yellen did not design the album to be shared initially. That changed when close friends heard his songs and encouraged him to release the album as a way to share meaningful songs with other people. “There’s a freedom in getting to that place of sharing with the world,” Abe says. “Hopefully it resonates with listeners.”

Blending various genres and musical influences, Abe Yellen put his heart and creativity into his upcoming album. “I don’t know exactly what kind of music I make,” he explains. “It’s hard to put into a box. I have several genres on this album. I enjoy sampling records and genres. I like to challenge myself.”

The album’s main single, “South of Italy,” came together as a chorus and melody that soon evolved into a full story. Smooth vocals give way to tasteful harmonies, taking listeners on a soothing, authentic journey through Abe Yellen’s deepest emotions. ‘“South of Italy” is not so much a message as me bearing my soul,” shares Abe Yellen. “It’s on the nose for what I was feeling in the moment. I was able to sing on the record and be upfront and personal as I could be.”

Drawing from memory, the single infuses the nostalgia that Abe Yellen loves so much. “I wanted to do it justice as a story from my own life,” he adds. “Italy brought out a lot of feelings for me—the landscape, the people, the culture. I was so moved by it.” The resulting song reads both like a diary and a dream—it’s up to the listener to connect with it in their own time and place.
