HCM Interviews Jamaican Born Singer

HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Shania The Artist. I was using Shania and kept getting intertwined with Shania Twain the country singer and then there has been other Shanias around too so I decided I had to stand out if I was going to be noticed. I added the artist to my name to separate my sound and music from the rest. One of Best decision I ever made.

HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursuit a career in music?
Shania The Artist. Well I’ve been singing since I was 5. I wasn’t allowed to go outside so what I would do is watch TV and music all the time… I built my skills and I wanted to be what I saw. Then I heard voices like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston and that was the day I knew what I wanted to do. I took a break because life took me elsewhere but my mom asked me to continue and I haven’t given up because of her and I won’t. I won’t let anything stop me and so I’m glad she was the sounding voice for that before she passed because my loyalty won’t let me give up.

HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Shania The Artist. The toughest things for me right now is keeping friends. They feel some type of way I guess because I’m focused and I have a goal. I’m so simple and down to earth but people see the outside and feel oh she’s too high maintenance or this and that and they judge that and so they leave thinking they’re not good enough. All I want is someone to stick around the same way I would stick around for them. The toughest thing for me is letting go, but it’s been happening so much that it’s becoming the norm… everyone can’t go with you where you headed. I just had to accept that.

HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
Shania The Artist. I have a new EP called E.V.O.L.V.E that I’ll be working on for the end of the year and I’m currently in the studio cooking up. Each word stands for something and evolve means that I’m now stripped like a snake and have come into a new way and new person a new self… a knowledge of self. A growth and realization I’ve never felt before. I’ve been waiting for this moment. I can’t wait for my fans to hear it. Apart from that I’m planning on performing more, hosting, and still doing my only fans for my members.

The new single “Exotic” came about when I heard that beat. It’s was so exotic to me, so different, I just had to jump on it. I thought and it had to be magical and sexy and represent the sentiment of it. Exotic was birthed on a oriental sound. It went well together.

HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Shania The Artist. I’d like to thank the people who stand behind the scenes. Very few but they are there, pushing me, giving me tough love… when I want to give up they are there and the ones that don’t run or leave at the first site of the woes. Thank y’all for being there. It’s the simple things like that, that really matters.
