HCM Interviews Up and Coming Female Rap Artist Dawn Duchess

DAWN DUCHESS INTERVIEW

HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Dawn Duchess. Dawn; meaning the rise, Duchess=royalty

The rise of something special in this Hip-Hop game.

HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Dawn Duchess. I used to write a lot of poetry… Being bored one day just thought it’d be cool to make a song out of one of my poems. Being able to freely express myself verbally in that booth was like a drug & I fell in love with the art of recording ever since!

HCM. To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Dawn Duchess. Unique things about artist before my time always captured my attention. Like the one glove, Michael Jackson would wear, or outrageous effects in Busta Rhymes videos…crazy hairdo’s Missy Elliot would pull off. So anything that’s entirely out the normal that I can pull off is what I aim for. Whether its the way I dance on stage or crazy sayings I put in lyrics, I just want to make sure it’s not like anybody else out that’s doing it.

HCM. On your upcoming album “RAGE,” how did you come up with the concept for this project?
Dawn Duchess. It’s just my vibe at the moment. The Rage is everywhere so I wanted to put that type of energy to productive use. This world is in a strange place & I think it’s frustrating for a lot of people. This album is very personal but fun. It explores lyrical concepts of undesirable work traditions, battles with relationships and the outcome of letting go of the bar society placed on us.

HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Dawn Duchess. Greatest attribute has to be that I love it! Entertainment business is more rocky than anything and if there’s passion there, work never feels like work. I don’t stop til its done right and that’s great when building longevity. My biggest challenge is not allowing my ego to run the show. As an artist, I want things VERY specific, but in business, there must be a compromise if you want to make your hobby a living. I’m learning to let go of certain things.

HCM. What impression would you like listeners to be left with after hearing your music?
Dawn Duchess. Good vibes & lots of energy! I consider my music healing and it should motivate the listener to dig deep into themselves. Even the sad songs are created to uplift when you pay attention to the lyrical content.

HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
Dawn Duchess. To direct more videos with deeper storylines. I really want people to feel like they’ve watched a movie when they see my music videos!

HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Dawn Duchess. ALL my subscribers! The DJs that’s keeping the stations’ jumpin’, and anybody that truly supports.
