AKA ROCK INTERVIEW
To kick start the new year, Hood Critic Magazine caught up with up and coming artist and producer AKA Rock for a brief interview. Motivated by family, Rock aspires to become more than just a trendy name in today’s music industry. Check out AKA Rock’s interview for more details…
HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
AKA Rock. Ever since around 7th grade I’ve been nicknamed Rock but my real name is Kylar, so I am also known as Rock.
HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
AKA Rock. My brother started making music before me on FL Studio and watching him make beats and record songs to them were really cool to see. Seeing the process in how music is created really made me respect the art and that’s when I knew I wanted to be apart of that culture.
HCM. To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I take a lot of inspiration from producers like Mike Dean, Kanye West, Metro Boomin, and Ronny J. Those are all producers that I look up to as an artist and respect heavily.
HCM. On your upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
AKA Rock. My next album is really just a collaborative project with talented rappers from all over the country. I haven’t decided to start working on a concept album yet, but it is without a doubt something I’d like to accomplish before I die.
HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
AKA Rock. A big challenge I’ve faced is my music not getting the respect and recognition it deserves, but that’s been the story of my life so I am very used to it. I believe my work ethic in the studio and while making beats at home is unmatched and that’s why I believe I deserve everything the game has to offer.
HCM. What impression would you like listeners to be left with after hearing your music?
AKA Rock. Happy and Inspired.
HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
AKA Rock. 2020 I am going to be working even harder to be the producer I want to be. I also plan on dropping 2 albums all within the year.
HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
AKA Rock. If I didn’t have my brother in my life, I wouldn’t be who I am at all. The amount of knowledge I have gained from his personal experiences with life I feel has put me ahead mentally than most people my age and if I become successful from music then he deserves a lot of the credit.
