Lil Beckta Artist Spotlight Interview
Today we’re going to start things off a little different. Usually, HCM introduces most of the artists we interview, but this time we’re going to let him introduce himself… Hello, y’all 🖤 my name is LIL BECKTA & I’m a hip hop artist residing from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada! Thank you to Hood Critic fr for coming thru and asking me some questions and helping me be able to promote this 2-year long overdue EP on god… shit be a movie sometimes… I feel like just last year I was dating that’s stripper ya know hahaha.
HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Lil Beckta. It started as JTB in high school, believe it or not, my three initials of my last name..it was a different time hahaha. It then turned to Beckta shortly after graduation in 2014 & now it’s LIL BECKTA cause I feel like I’m a small pebble in a sea of creatives 😭, but I feel like as a pro and still a rookie in the game I got a lot to give! JTB was an era of high school monarchy back at Shaftesbury, I started rapping as that name..I remember putting out my second ever single named “Winnipeg Boy” over Mac Miller’s “kool-aid and frozen pizza” beat and the next day everyone was just fanning no cap like that shit was crazy at the time, I go back at times for memories 😂.
HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Lil Beckta. Honestly, at the age of 7, my dad was a disk jockey for roadshow back in my childhood & he used to take me out to his gigs, showed me different types of music, biggie smalls, Tupac, immortal technique & a tribe called quest upon many names I can name but his catalog was a vault!!, I fully decided I wanted to pursue it tho when I was age 13, I use to write poems for girls I liked in school hahaha no lie & got used to writing more & more often, the raps started to form then I finally recorded my first song at the age of 16 🙏🏻 damn man that takes me back fr, I use to write like 5 poems at a time 😂.
HCM. On your upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Lil Beckta. Going thru two years of experiences & finding out more about yourself, this project has been long overdue, it’s been two years since I’ve put out anything and it’s wild to think that now I’m finally putting in the effort, a lot of shit has happened fr, I just went thru a hard-ass break up & on god, I would love to get back together with her but I want her to focus on herself rn especially during these COVID times 😭, I always want her to know though that I be doing good 💕. 2019TILLINFINITY symbolizes how last year went as a whole, from my ups & downs to my blessings 🙏🏻 it’s a ride of fun and darkness. Just be ready for when I put out more music 😈.
My new single LIPSTIXX produced by. Kevin Katana is out now on SoundCloud mixed and mastered by. Post-war 🖤, one of the many singles on “2019TILLINFINITY”.
HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Lil Beckta. Overcoming fear I’d say, when you perform in front of at least 200 or more of your high school classmates it gets a bit nerve-wracking..there is a Facebook video of my first performance out there but that is saved for the unknown 😂 LOL, challenging yourself too I feel is the best attribute, it’s helped me so much in everyday life and recording, my work ethic is thankful for it, without it IDK what I would do fr.
HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
Lil Beckta. Work on music as hard as I can and keep grinding and making money!! I got my new single LIPSTIXX off of 2019TILLINFINITY going onto DJ Sidereal’s SoundCloud playlist this month! Shout outs to blunt radio in Sheffield England they are currently spinning that track supporting big 🙏🏻. As of that my plans be working hard and working on my passion till I put my whole team and family on that’s Cap, Fiji boys, and everything!
HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Lil Beckta. Man shout out to my mom & dad first of all, without y’all I wouldn’t be here and working on my passion fr 🙏🏻, I give them the most thanks 🙏🏻 much love 💕. I also wanna thank and shout out to jay aka phre$h prince my other Fiji boy!! Me & him met a couple years back and started this movement and this year will be the year we take it back!
