Floyd Grant Interview

Over the weekend HCM caught up with stand out R&B artist Floyd Grant for a brief interview. Floyd gave us a glimpse of his past, and how hard work and determination led him to become the successful artist/actor he is today. Check out his interview to learn a little bit more about the many talents of Mr. Grant and his promising career.

HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Floyd Grant. At the age of 5 when I was recording over my mom tapes that she recorded songs, she wrote as a singer herself lol. It was an accident but at the time my mom knew I had a gift, I was recording in 3 part harmony at age 5 and was doing runs at age 8.. I realized I had a love for music when all I did was practice daily for 10 years straight… perfecting my craft.

HCM. To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Floyd Grant. My mom was my greatest inspiration she pushed me even when she was on my nerves.. my other inspiration at that time was Whitney Houston .. Stevie Wonder & Michael Jackson

HCM. On your current album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Floyd Grant. This particular project is comprised of some old and never released content. Some of these songs on this project were apart of my previous project “Black Prince” pt 1. It’s also collabs from some of my friends who are phenomenal artists (Londee & Da Public’s Eye) you should check them out. S/o to Work Grind Hustle.

HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Floyd Grant. As an artist, there are times of uncertainty if you are still relevant if ppl will press play and support. When I started out the first 7 years of my career was non-stop working and grinding these last 2 I kind of slowed it down a bit to catch myself. Now I’m back in the game with my A-game on full throttle 😃

HCM. What impression would you like listeners to be left with after hearing your music?
Floyd Grant. I want my listeners to know that you can do anything you put your mind heart and soul into. What they are listening to is my experience.. my happiness my joys .. my sadness .. my struggles and my success

HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
Floyd Grant. I’m working on some great things so stay tuned!

HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Floyd Grant. Yes, I’d like to first thank God for the gift. I’d like to S/O Da Public’s Eye & Work Grind Hustle. I’d like to S/O Londee the Artist. All my musical friends. S/O to Eddy super music producer, LuhKav, and the entire team. To all my fans and supporters thank you for your love!
