HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Jesenia. My real name is Jesenia. My aunt was the one who named me Jesenia. I wanted to keep it all the way real with the fans.
HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Jesenia. At a young age, my brother introduced me to hip-hop and R&B. He made me practice singing and taught me hip hop dance. When I performed on stage for the first time in high school I knew for sure that I wanted to entertain people and connect with them through my music.
HCM. On your current/upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Jesenia. The focus right now is on my first single from the EP. It is called ‘Friday the 13th’ and it is going to drop with a crazy visual on Friday, November 13. The concept is crazy, it ties in the Friday the 13th movie series, you know, with Jason, the hockey mask, all that. It’s really a metaphor for how I’m coming at these other artists in the industry and I wanted to prove I’m just as good at rapping as I am singing. When you hear it you’ll know exactly what I mean, from the beat to the lyrics, and the music video.
HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Jesenia. Coming from nothing and trying to make something of yourself is definitely hard. I don’t see my struggles as obstacles though, because I truly believe everything happens for a reason, so they are just things I need to get through to reach a bigger and better outcome.
HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Jesenia. Shout out to my team, Matt Cap, CuschiCooks, and Hall of Fame Music Group.
