HCM Artist Spotlight Interview With Rising New Singer Shana

Shana Interview

A few days ago, HCM got a brief interview with British-Nigerian singer Shana. At just the age of 17, Shana has consistently grown as an artist, as well as her fanbase, along with an assist from her music producer, Jiffthegeneral. Shana gave us a little insight into her upcoming EP as well as her latest single. Take a look at her interview to find out more.

HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Shana. Well…..that one’s easy – my parents gave it to me 🙂 it’s my real name

HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Shana. I’m only a month in to my 17th year and I can’t remember a day without music in my life, from my riffing attempts as a toddler to sharing song status on msn! But the pursuit – that came a year and a half ago after years of listening to Uk acts such as Ella Mai, IAMDDB, Jorja Smith, and Mahalia.

HCM. On your current and upcoming releases… How did you come up with the concept for these project(s)?
Shana. I’m currently working on an Ep and I’ve decided to base it on relationship stories I’ve heard throughout my time in college – from the outset, through good times and bad. My first self explanatory single ‘Crush On You’ was released in April, the follow-up, ‘No Rainy Days’, is out now with visuals to complement and the story continues with future releases.

HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Shana. Please Please listen to my demo :). I mean, breaking down barriers has to be the greatest challenge for me – trying to get your foot into an industry that churns out music at the rate that is done today can be daunting. Perseverance and determination keep me going because I feel talent is only a third or so of the real deal.

HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
Shana. Can’t stop won’t stop – my journey’s just begun.

HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Shana. Big shout out to my producer and manager Jiffthegeneral, my inspirers but most importantly my listeners.
