Marcelle Elmore Interview

HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Marcelle Elmore. I originally wanted my stage name to be ZHNARE, one of my middle names, but I decided to stick with my real name because I’ve never been proud of it, but now I am.

HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Marcelle Elmore. I’ve been going through hardships on and off for years. It first started when I was young when my father would introduce me to the music he grew up listening to. Then, I wanted to expand my taste in different genres. I realized I wanted to pursue a career in music production when I found a passion for creating and learning it.

HCM. On your current/upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Marcelle Elmore. The concept of Hopeless Romantic is based on a relationship that I was in that didn’t end well. I used classic R&B songs and sampled them to try and convey a story about the situation.

HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Marcelle Elmore. One of the greatest challenges that I face is comparing myself to other producers. There are so many different producers that I look up to and want to be like but I have to remember I can’t be them. I can only be myself. One of my greatest attributes is that I’m persistent and I’m able to learn from my mistakes and keep going to see the bigger picture.

HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
Marcelle Elmore. My plans for the near future is to expand my record label Nostalgic Soul Records and put more producers, artists, and songwriters on my team. Then, collaborate with at least one well-known artist.

HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Marcelle Elmore. I’d want to thank my first love. If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t have put my head on straight and been tunnel visioned about my career in music.
