HCM Interviews Singer Shirena Parker

HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Shirena Parker. It’s my name 🙂

HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursuit a career in music?
Shirena Parker. The piano changed everything for me. I considered it my first form of self expression before I started singing.

HCM. To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Shirena Parker. My vocal style definitely comes from my culture. Lyrical flows and beats …probably from being raised in the Bay and having hip hop so prevalent as well as listening to other artists I trusted to like Juice Wrld (RIP) , Derez De’Shon & Rod Wave.

HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Shirena Parker. Feeling like the music is good enough… sometimes I get in my head about it all but helps to remember that music is a lifestyle and it takes commitment as well as passion. Sometimes you’re running on low and you have to do what’s right to get your head in the right mindset so you can keep going. Mental health is key.

HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
Shirena Parker. Visuals! I’ve been so nervous to actually get in front of the camera in the past. I’m more comfortable in the dark behind the piano to be honest – so that’s where I’ve been. But connecting with fans this last year has really encouraged me to open up and make something unique and different this time around. You’ll want to stay tuned 😉
