However, it is a route we must all take if we want to fulfill our dreams, and as Miami-based DJ and producer Zillamatic shows us, nothing is too hard to achieve if we put our minds to it.
Born and raised in Orange County, CA, and later moving to Dallas, TX, Zillamatic (alias Zilla) has always been a huge fan of music. He notes that he enjoyed listening to different genres from a young age, and more than the lyrics, Zillamatic was deeply drawn to the beats. This inspired him to start his journey as a producer, later venturing into DJing.
He says that one of the reasons he joined the music industry was to help create timeless music and spread love through his mixes. “Many people listen to music as they consider it a safe space where you can freely express your emotions without facing constant public judgment,” says Zillamatic. Depending on the intended message, some songs are also great for encouragement, showing the listeners that it is possible to fulfill their dreams despite the challenges.
Having faced countless obstacles, Zillamatic uses his talent as a DJ to empower and inspire his audience and others in the industry. He shares his story with his listeners and encourages people not to give up on their dreams.
“Success is not a destination but rather a journey, which means it’s not something that happens overnight,” explains Zillamatic. He notes that to achieve your goals, you must be ready to step out of your comfort zone and invest in your ideas when people do not believe in them.
When Zillamatic started his journey, some of his friends and family didn’t believe he would be able to make a successful career in the music industry. He notes that many were against this idea. It was also difficult as he didn’t have experience or an extensive network, and he had to prove his worth for people to take him seriously.
While it was challenging, Zillamatic was not ready to give up on his passion, and through hard work, he perfected his skills. Today, Zillamatic is one of Miami and Dallas’s most sought-after and trusted DJs. He has performed alongside Tory Lanez, Steve Aoki, Meduza, Snakehips, and G-Eazy, among others.
Zillamatic has also DJed at many top clubs, including Bottled Blonde, where he is currently the director of music, Citizen, and Theory Nightclub, to name a few. To help others in the industry, he is now sharing what he has learned and valuable tips to help up-and-coming DJs and producers.
