MC David J: The Atlanta Hip Hop Artist Blending Jazz Roots, Raw Energy, and Old School Authenticity

MC David J is a rising force in Hip Hop, known for his raw intensity, multi-instrument musicianship, and unwavering commitment to preserving the culture. Now based in Atlanta Georgia, he spent his childhood traveling across the United States which exposed him to a wide range of people, rhythms, and stories. These experiences shaped the foundation of his artistry and led him toward a lifelong love of music.

His earliest musical passion came from Jazz which became the blueprint for his creative identity. By the age of seven he was already learning the piano, guitar, trumpet, and drum machine which helped him evolve into a true multi-talented artist. His first introduction to Hip Hop happened when he watched his father breakdance to legends such as Melle Mel, Sugar Hill Gang, and Run DMC. Inspired, he wrote his first rhymes at only ten years old.

As he continued to discover influential artists including Dr. Dre, The Roots, The Notorious B.I.G, Eazy E, and Slick Rick, his passion intensified. These inspirations helped him sharpen his lyrical ability and build his skillset as a producer. By sixteen he was building his first home studio which included his grandfather’s drum machine, recording software, keyboards, and his first microphone. Over the years he developed a sound that feels like a modern reflection of classic Hip Hop, almost as if the listener has uncovered unreleased music from that golden era.

In 2015 MC David J released two studio albums titled The Chill and No Chill which led to the launch of his own record label CoCalm Entertainment. The label’s creative ecosystem expands far beyond Hip Hop and now includes the official CoCalm Entertainment App available for free on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The app showcases artists, dancers, models, videographers, and a live radio function that streams underground talent around the clock.

A major career milestone arrived in 2024 with the release of his EP cozy nights in da A, Vol. 2. The project earned media attention from outlets such as LA Weekly and The Source which helped strengthen his presence in the Hip Hop community.

In 2025 he elevated further with his album NEVER FORGET! released on April 24. The nine track project focuses on empowerment, truth, and authenticity, paired with dynamic visuals that continue to push his artistic range.

His newest release is the explosive single MIXIT UP! produced by AquamanJordan. The motion visual teaser introduces MC David J in animated form inside his laboratory where he mixes symbolic ingredients that represent the impact of his music.
