Q. When did you start making music and taking it serious?
A. I started making music when I was very young, writing songs on the piano and making up melodies. I became more serious about songwriting when I started studying music at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Creating my own songs became and outlet and a platform, I could make my own rules.
Q. Do you feel that the industry needs more artist like yourself? Why?
A. I want to see more mainstream artists that are less about production and more about great songwriting, melodies, memorable and meaningful words. Creating something sonically fascinating is wonderful, I love music driven by that medium as well. But I still want to hear that great song, the way Carol King and Paul McCartney did it.
Q. Would you prefer to be independent or signed to a major? A. When it comes to labels, I would prefer to be signed to whichever one is going to support the music and really get it out to the world, distribution from your label is key, and it’s harder now that we live in a digital age of music, almost entirely! Although I still love playing and buying my vinyl.
Q. What is your favorite song? A. My favorite song changes almost daily…but today it’s Private Eyes by Hall & Oates
Q. What are you currently working on and how can the people find you? A. I’m currently working on my next studio album, due out mid 2015, and I’ll be doing a bunch of shows to support that music! Check out www.chrissipoland.com for details, show info, and more.
