HCM Interviews Gian Kash

Gian Kash Interview

HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Gian Kash. I used to go by JKash but it sounded too basic and common. I couldn’t think of many names so I wanted something that could take away the emphasis from the (Kash) part of the name so I threw my birth name at the beginning which is John. I wanted to use a different spelling so I can get more of an artist try side of myself out and so I came up with Gian Kash. Still pronounced John Kash lol.

HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursuit a career in music?
Gian Kash. I was always in tune with music since 4 or 5. I remember watchin’ the Country Grammar video by Nelly and bring in front of the TV trying to recite every word lol. I started writing music at the age of 8 and been on and off every since. I always felt I had some skill so I just recently decided a year or two ago to put myself to the test and take it a little more seriously to see where it could end up.

HCM. To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Gian Kash. I listen to a LOT of different artists so I usually take what I like from them and mix my own personality with what I would like to hear. I mainly follow artists like J Cole, Isaiah Rashad. Bas, Smino, 6lack, Bryson Tiller, H.E.R , and SZA. I Follow a lot more but these were main inspirations for my latest project.

HCM. On your current/upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Gian Kash. My current and first official project ‘The Allure’ (available on all major streaming platforms) is a project about the beginnings stages of meeting a special someone and eventually falling in love. The songs on that project explain the stages of that process. I wrote all the songs at different times but after hearing them I figured they could be made into a story line and that’s how I came up with the concept.

HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Gian Kash. I could drop a list of names that would go on forever but I want to thank everyone who supports me as a person and in music. Those who want the best for me and nothing else. Everyone who listens and is inspired by what I’m creating, thank you!
