Yona Marie Interview

HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Yona Marie. Marie is my middle name and Yona is my favorite female anime character’s name.

HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursuit a career in music?
Yona Marie. I discovered my love for music at a very young age; around 5. My family raised me in the the music scene and they all have musical talents.

HCM. On your current/upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Yona Marie. My upcoming album will tell a story of love and loss just like all the great R&B projects do, except it will be told in order of each mood felt while going through a relationship.

HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Yona Marie. The biggest challenge as an artist is to stay consistent while growing, learning and gaining connections in the industry steadily. A lot of people get stuck doing the same things and never stop running in the same circles.

HCM. What impression would you like listeners to be left with after hearing your music?
Yona Marie. I would like my listeners to be able to relate to my lyrical content and be impressed with my ability to write, sing, and produce my own songs.
