HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Jesse Neo. I was raised in a very musical family and from a young age I was given piano, violin and singing lessons. I was expected by family and friends to have a career as a classical musician but that was never what I wanted. So in around 2016, I started taking EDM production and DJing classes. Out from nowhere, it just hit me that this was what I wanted to do.
HCM. To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Jesse Neo. The thing with pop and electronic music is that it doesn’t need to follow traditional musical theories. I mean, it gives me the freedom to use non-conventional sounds without appearing uneducated. So I guess my sense of style really comes from within and through experiments. However, some of the producers that I really look up to include Martin Garrix, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Tiësto and Don Diablo.
HCM. On your current release… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Jesse Neo. My latest single is titled “Sex Magic” and the idea came to me randomly during a Sunday afternoon. At that time I was reading some spiritual and occult books when the idea of creating a wicked club beat with suggestive lyrics within an unworldly vibe suddenly struck me. Immediately upon release, the track appeared on radio across Europe and USA.
HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Jesse Neo. I think all recording artists would agree that the production stage is the hardest to manage. Everything must be recorded perfectly, and any little flaws will become more apparent than a live record. There have been many tracks that I had to give up because the recording wasn’t perfect, or the plugins I used at that time wasn’t solid enough. Little things like this really messes the sound up, but it is essential to keep striving and never give up.
HCM. What impression would you like listeners to be left with after hearing your music?
Jesse Neo. I would like my listeners to get into their dance modes while listening to my music where they are free to release any stress and negativity that may be surrounding their lives.
HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
Jesse Neo. I am currently working on an online platform known as Gemtracks where any artist can purchase exclusive beats and get full ownership and copyright. Each track is only sold once, which makes them even more valuable.
