HCM Interviews Singer/Songwriter Vona B.

Vona B. Interview

HCM. When did you start making music and taking it seriously?
Vona B. I started making music in 2014 but, I started taking it seriously in 2016 around the time my Grandfather passed. I’ve been writing since I was a kid. Me and my sister thought we were going to be the next Mary Mary at one point and we started writing when I was 7 lol.

HCM. Do you feel that the industry needs more artists like yourself? Why?
Vona B. I definitely feel like the industry needs more people like me. I don’t feel like there’s any real passion behind music anymore. I will definitely jump-start that movement again.

HCM. Would you prefer to be independent or signed to a major?
Vona B. I would prefer to stay independent but, I’m not limiting myself to strictly being an independent artist.

HCM. How do you feel about pirating?
Vona B. I don’t feel any way about it. Sometimes people can’t afford the luxury of music streaming services or simply buying music but, they still love music like everyone else.

HCM. Who do you feel are the best singers?
Vona B. Beyonce, Jasmine Sullivan, Brandy, and newer generation singers like Ari Lennox, Summer Walker.

Why? They all have unique tones, vibratos, and different agilities in their voices a lot of people don’t have in the industry today.

HCM. Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
Vona B. I’m definitely the best at what I (Vona B.) personally does. I always feel like there’s room for improvement and growth. I’ll never cap my limits because I always am hungry for more.

HCM. Who was your inspiration?
Vona B. My inspiration growing up and til this day is Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter. She is an incredible entertainer, a mogul, and a family woman all things I aspire to achieve and more.

HCM. What is your ultimate goal at the end of your career?
Vona B. By the end of my career of course I want generational wealth and to be known like everyone else but, my true aspiration is to have my hands in multiple businesses, not just music. I want to inspire young black girls and women like myself to reach for whatever they want because you can have whatever you want as long as you’re willing to work.

HCM. What are you currently working on and how can the people find you?
Vona B. I’m currently working on my new project. No official release date as of now but, it’s coming together. You can find me everywhere @vonabmusic (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok)! Thanks so much for interviewing me. I appreciate the opportunity to be apart of your magazine!
