Alex Orion Interview
Earlier this week we got in touch with underground rap artist known as Alex Orion for a brief interview. He gave us a little insight behind his previous project “We’re All Addicts” and his upcoming releases, as well as some of the challenges he’s faced during the creative process. Check out his interview to find out more.
HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Alex Orion. There’s a Metallica song called Orion. And it used to be my pump-up song back in the day. So people called me Orion. So Alex Orion just stuck.
HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Alex Orion. When I was 15, I was at an outpatient for mental issues and at lunchtime, all of my friends would crowd around a lunch table bangin’ on the table making beats and freestyling. And it was the one thing to look forward to in the day. Whoever came with the hardest bars was the hardest MF there.
HCM. To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Alex Orion. My style is definitely inspired by underground rap from when I was growing up. When I first started getting into rap, Hopsin was just getting big, and of course, everyone was listening to Tech N9ne.
HCM. On your current/upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Alex Orion. My last album ‘We’re All Addicts’ was definitely a concept album from a darker place. I was going through a lot of depression and I wanted to make a slower album that changed my sound a lot and made music that was meaningful for everyone to listen to. My next album is more of a free-flowing project with more of a variety of sounds!
HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Alex Orion. Some of the biggest challenges are of course the writer’s block that hits a lot. I make all my own beats right now so the whole music-making progress takes longer. But I would say my last album was my biggest achievement because I made the whole album. Beats’ lyrics, mixing, and mastering were all done by me.
HCM. What impression would you like listeners to be left with after hearing your music?
Alex Orion. I’d like if listeners got the good vibe I’m trying to put into the world with my music. I’d just like to know I affected someone somehow.
HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
Alex Orion. I’m working on a lot of new music that’s gonna start dripping its way out soon, and the next thing up should be a song called ‘good life’
HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Alex Orion. Shoutout to my homies Andrew, and ciggy. And my fiance and son!
