HCM Interviews International Artist Düke

HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
Düke. My real name is Duke. But my parents call Düke.

HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Düke. I was born in Cameroon in 1998. My father was the musician Billy Mussango, who repeatedly attracted attention with his political and critical lyrics. I started to play instruments like guitar, bass before I started making beats. After releasing my first mixtape I started working with my brother Bill on his EP. After releasing his EP, he was part of the Label. In the following time, Düke attracted attention, especially as a producer. He worked with BTNG, Kay One, Nessa, and many other artists. At the same time, he signed the Berlin newcomer 03CMB and expanded the label’s structures.

HCM. On your current/upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Düke. In 2021, I started again with a surprise. 03CMB, me and Bill formed the group CSQUAD, which released the French song “Le Pas”. After a short time, the single reached several million views on Triller and TikTok, due to the “Le Pas Challenge”, and was able to place itself internationally. “Le Pas” was released via Sony Music France.

HCM. What are your plans for the near future?
Düke. I want to be the greatest and I think I will, it just a matter of time.

HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout-outs?
Düke. Shoutout to my family for always believing in me.
