Many people have a hard time figuring out their life purpose or passion, probably due to the countless obstacles along the way. For this reason, among others, some tend to doubt themselves, delaying the pursuit of their interests. According to talented singer and songwriter Luuk Halman, while it can be challenging to achieve your goals, it’s important and extremely rewarding to see it through to the end.
He notes that even though he has failed a couple of times, what has allowed him to live his dream is continuously choosing to move forward. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Luuk developed an interest in music at a young age. When he was eight years old, his mom enrolled him in music classes, and he got to learn to play the piano and guitar, which he plays to this day. In middle school, Luuk also began attending vocal classes.
He notes that having someone to guide and support him from a young age has really helped shape his career, equipping him with the skills he needed early on. Luuk says that through interacting with his teachers and fellow students, he came to learn more about music, and although he was young, he was confident that this was what he wanted to pursue for the rest of his life.
As he got older, Luuk continued working on his passion with the support of his parents, and he slowly started composing and releasing music. He is famously known for his songs “Privacy” and “The Meet-Up,” which have garnered over 100 million streams on Spotify and SoundCloud. However, his song list does not end there—he has many other songs, including “Girl Next Door,” “Darkest Times,” and “Moonlight.”
He says that more than just creating music, his goal is to compose impactful songs and help unite the world. “Music is a powerful communication tool and one that transcends all distances. While we are all going through different situations, music brings us all together, encourages and empowers us on the life journey,” says Luuk.
To Luuk, music is his way of coping. He notes that by writing down his thoughts, he is able to share his story with the rest of the world. It’s also his special way of encouraging people going through similar situations, showing them that they too can overcome.
In his song, “The Meet-Up,” his breakthrough single, Luuk shares his journey with depression and how he managed to overcome it while shedding light on mental health issues. He notes that society often criticizes and judges people for expressing their opinion and showing their vulnerabilities. This has stopped many people from coming forward and asking for help. Through his music, Luuk hopes to be a light in a dark world and create a safe space where people are free to be themselves.
His advice to other young people is to not give up on their dream and always strive to be better. Luuk notes that while some people will discourage you, you should believe in your work and remain consistent. Looking into the future, Luuk says he has many projects in store.
