JSY Music
HCM. How did you come by your stage name?
JSY. My real name is John Sy but I wanted it to be easier to read so I shortened it to JSY. Also, I didn’t want to get it confused with a very common name in China and the Philippines.
HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursuit a career in music?
JSY. I’ve loved music since I was a little boy my parents would be playing Motown all the time. I joined the church choir when I was 6 or so and have been writing music since I was 12 years old. I realized I wanted to pursue a career in music because there was nothing that made me happier than creating music and lyrics. It’s been my healthy outlet for any experience good or bad in my life.
HCM. On your current/upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
JSY. My current album I’m working on is definitely going to be different from my other ones. I’m taking a darker and more mature approach to this album with all the experiences I’ve had this year. The concept for me is always love songs because I’m an R&B singer, but I’m definitely excited to show the darker side of love.
HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
JSY. I think the greatest challenge is to stand out in a world full of wonderful artists. There’s tons of talent, people are starting so much younger and social media has taken another level for artist to build brands. its definitely a challenge but I’m excited for the completion. I think what will always separate me from others when it comes to work ethic is my willingness to sacrifice. I’m willing to sacrifice my time from loved ones to pursue dreams. Sacrifice all my weekends I could be partying to work on my craft. I’m willing to sacrifice money for music production, video production, and marketing. That quality mixed with my determination and no fear of risk has definitely helped my music as well as me as a person grow.
HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
JSY. I’d love to thank my family and my best friends. The support is always at its highest even when I’m at my lowest. Also a big shout out to a lot of guys I’ve been working with on my current project. Joril Beatz, Jerome Santome, New Picasso, and theWavman.
