HCM Interviews Hip-Hop Producer & Founder of Music Networking Site “PlayMyShytDotCom” – Young Gentleman

HCM. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursuit a career in music?
Young Gentleman. Its always been a passion of mine.. music is something I’ve known since birth, I’m an 80’s baby so I watched how music made my parents feel. Same with uncles, aunts, cousins etc my whole family is rooted in music. From my beloved grandfather L.C Grier down the family roster is musically talented.

I was 12 when I decided this is what I want to be known for, basement studio of my beloved cousin Prince DaVinci, whom passed away beginning of this year “2018”, aka Young Genius at the time had just finished making a ballad when I mentioned how i could hear the words to his track, from there unk started making phone calls and the rest was history… I knew soon I got home that songwriting was cool and all… but I’m curious to hear how that would sound if I made the beat.

HCM. To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Young Gentleman. Musically, I would have to say everything and everyone, my style is like the best seafood & chicken gumbo you could ever imagine (I’m talking with the okra, crab, crawfish, Italian sausage all that). My mother is originally from Philadelphia and my father is from New York , I’m from New Jersey and currently reside there, and was also raised ten years of my childhood in the south. Houston, TX to be exact so my style is genuinely unique… I don’t do nothing normal.

HCM. On your current/upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Young Gentleman. Timeless is just that, the album by New Jersey rapper “MDM” made itself honestly, he stood by his promise to remain persistent and this is what came of that… a timeless album prodbyYG. After close to a dozen mixtapes made alongside my legendary music bredren “Showtime1nj” (The Escape Tape,The Smoke Break Tape, etc) it’s time for this, “Hov gon say this the Get Back!”

HCM. What are some of your greatest challenges as a producer, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Young Gentleman. Staying patient is probably one of the greatest challenges as a producer, playing such a major role in a million dollar record.., yet having little to no control after the beat is made can be nerve racking. What I mean by that is as far as when the record will be released, how it is released everything discussed is a big secret to the fans so its always told to us as a secret. As a producer those random phone calls or emails keeping us up to date be everything for us. My favorite attribute about myself is providing artists with a sound that’s a different vibe then what their used to.

HCM. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Young Gentleman. My Family and Music Family, and the fans & supporters I appreciate you all, and a special shout to out to Hood Critic Magazine for featuring me on the site… That’s NICE!!
